You’re starting to think about fall family photos, the kind you’ll actually print and hang, not just scroll past on a phone. Maybe you’ve got a date circled in October, or you’re still deciding when to book. Either way, some moms wonder whether they should get hair and makeup done, just to make the experience that much more special.
Since hair & makeup artistry is included in my session fee, I’ll admit I’m biased. But here’s why I believe it’s important.
.
.
Think about the last time someone else did your hair before something important. Not a rushed five minutes in the bathroom, hoping to get out of the house on time. An actual, unhurried moment where you got to sit down and relax, while someone else (a pro) handled the concealer and curling iron.
That’s what this is.
When hair and makeup are part of your session, you’re not rushing out the door hoping your makeup will photograph well and your waves won’t fall out. Instead, you’re walking out looking and feeling your best, and that confidence carries through your session and into the finished product.
And THAT’S what you’re after.

So many of the moms I work with tell me they haven’t been IN the photos for years. They’re always the one behind the lens, rarely seen.
Then a decade passes, and there isn’t a single portrait of them with their children from this chapter of life, nothing worth printing, nothing worth framing.
If professional hair and makeup gives you that much more confidence when you’re in the family photos with your children (and it does), that in itself is worth it.
You deserve to walk past those family portraits on the wall and feel proud of how you looked, proud to have your children and guests looking at those photos.
Feeling pretty and confident isn’t vanity. It’s part of fully enjoying yourself, being fully present with your family IN FRONT of the lens, in images that are going to outlast this season by generations.

.
.
I know how busy you are taking care of your family. The endless time in the car for soccer and ice skating, the staying up late to finish those last few household tasks, the meal planning, bearing the mental burden of running a modern household – ON TOP OF trying to hold down a career you worked very hard for.
I probably don’t need to convince you that you deserve to treat yourself. So this year, sit back with that glass of wine and let a professional come in and make you look and feel beautiful.
And that confidence and ease will carry through to those portraits you and your children will look back on for decades.

I don’t offer mini sessions or à la carte add-ons. Every family I work with receives the same full, curated experience: a discovery call, an in-home styling consultation, professional hair and makeup, the session itself, and custom artwork design so the final images are printed and displayed, not left sitting on a hard drive.
Hair and makeup was never something you’d need to think about separately. It’s simply part of how the experience is built, alongside everything else I handle so you don’t have to (like figuring out what to wear).
You shouldn’t have to figure any of this out on your own. I’ve got it. That’s the whole idea behind a full-service, white-glove San Diego family photography experience: as meaningful as it is beautiful, from our first conversation to the heirloom piece that eventually hangs in your home.

Fall is the most requested season among the families I photograph, and for good reason. The colors are beautiful, the light is soft, and getting those holiday cards out in time is a priority.
Whether you’re looking for a session on the dunes of Coronado, the rocks at Windansea Beach, golden light in a mountain meadow, or a cozy in-home session with your newest addition, now is the time to begin planning.
Fall 2026 dates are already filling.
.
.
If you’ve been going back and forth on whether hair and makeup is worth it, I hope this settled it for you. It was never about vanity; it’s about walking into your session relaxed and confident, ready to spend time with those you love most, instead of distracted by a dozen small worries that someone else could easily be handling for you.
I’d love to help you plan a warm, connected fall family photography session, fully curated and completely taken care of from our first conversation to the final artwork on your wall. No forcing, no staging, and not a “say cheese” in sight.
Reach out and let’s talk about your family, your fall 2026 dates, and what a full-service, premium San Diego family photography experience with me looks like.
Warmly,
Michelle
