Whether Glacier National Park is your favorite place on earth, or you’re about to visit it for the first time, there’s no better place to invest in some (epic) new family photos. Whether you’re traveling from out of state or you’re lucky enough to call the Flathead Valley home, here’s 3 reasons to take family photos in Glacier National Park during your vacation:

.

1. You’re together, having a wonderful time

Vacation is one of the rare times when the whole family is in one place, unplugged, and enjoying experiences together. You’re not rushing from school pickup to soccer practice. You’re hiking, exploring, staring at awesome landscapes together, plus experiencing the rush of talking about a bear maybe waiting around the next bend in the trail (just me?). Basically, you’re making wonderful memories, as a family. And your children will never be this young again. Taking time for professional family portraits against this backdrop just makes sense.

2. The place matters just as much as the people

Some families come to Glacier every summer. Others visit once and never forget its beauty. Either way, it becomes part of your family story. The mountains, lakes, and sense of true wilderness have a way of sticking with you, and capturing your family in that landscape adds meaning that goes beyond just having a “pretty background.”

.

3. It’s stunning. End of sentence.

Let’s be honest: it doesn’t hurt that Glacier is breathtaking. These aren’t your everyday family photos at the local park. Framed on the wall, they’ll inspire awe and start a thousand conversations. (Also, there’s a certain amount of bragging rights that come with saying, “Oh that? Just our family photo… in Glacier National Park.”) 😉

4. These days go so fast

And your kids will never be this little again. You won’t regret having a tangible reminder of who you were as a family during this exact time in your lives. And the fact that it’s preserved against the backdrop of some of the most stunning scenery in North America? Priceless.

How to Choose a Glacier Park Photographer

If you’re considering a Glacier Park photoshoot, here are a few things to look for when choosing a Glacier Park photographer:

1. Local knowledge of Glacier’s best photo locations
Glacier is huge, and not every viewpoint or trail is ideal for photos (especially with little kids or limited time). A Glacier photographer familiar with the park can help you avoid the crowds, find the best light, and know exactly where to go for epic portraits with minimal hiking.

2. Experience with National Park rules and permits
Photographing inside a national park is not the same as photographing at a local beach or trail. It’s important to work with someone who understands the permitting process, the ever-changing road pass regulations, and the specific rules that apply to commercial photography within Glacier (and yes, that describes me).

3. A genuine love for Glacier
You want someone who doesn’t just see the scenery, but is as in love with this place as you are, because that translates into the way they photograph your family. I fell in love with Glacier in college, and have been returning ever since. I know how special this place is, and I pour that same love into every image I create here.

Whether you’re planning your first trip to Glacier or your fifteenth, I’d love to help you document it in the way it deserves. I’m there for just a few weeks this summer of 2025 (from later in July – early August) so I have only 3 bookings available.

And since I’m so passionate about capturing families in this place I love, family sessions will be offered at a custom all-inclusive rate, instead of my usual full-service rate! All sessions include unlimited styling guidance, assistance choosing the perfect location, and high resolution digital images.
